Jimmy Lee outlines Asia ambitions

Clariden Leu scored a coup when it persuaded popular former Deutsche Bank veteran Kenneth Toong to come out of retirement to become Asia chairman. The firm’s Asia head Jimmy Lee says he expects their professional reunion to drive the Swiss boutique forwards.

Boutique Swiss private bank Clariden Leu staged a considerable coup by persuading the industry respected and hugely popular Kenneth Toong to come out of retirement.

In news first broken on asiamoney.com, Toong will become Clariden Leu’s new Asia chairman, to be based in Hong Kong from the start of October.

He had taken retirement from Deutsche Bank more than a year ago, having been the firm’s deputy head for Asia-Pacific wealth management as well as its North Asia head.

He ran Deutsche’s North Asia business for more than 10 years, and as one senior industry source told asiamoney.com: “He has interviewed everyone, and everyone knows him.”

His industry popularity is such that a number of private bankers are now expected to follow him to Clariden Leu, including staff from Deutsche, whose Asia-Pacific private wealth management business has been run by ex-Citi veteran Ravi Raju since...
