SFC wary of stifling product innovation: Wheatley

Martin Wheatley, the chief executive of Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission, said he was looking to refine how investment products were sold in the city, but was mindful of making it a vibrant, competitive market place.

Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission is looking to refine how investment products are sold in the city but will be careful not to “stifle product innovation”, its chief executive Martin Wheatley told a legal conference today (October 13).

In a 45-minute keynote address, Wheatley pointed out that while the regulatory response to the problems exposed by the financial crisis was important, it had to be balanced.
