Return of leveraged buy-outs raises spirits

Bain Capital had to fight off stiff competition to secure the buy-out of call centre operator Bellsystem24, suggesting investors believe in the global recovery and are piling back into the M&A space to cut potentially lucrative deals before corporate valuations recuperate.

Asian buy-out volumes and values in the fourth quarter are already nudging quarterly highs for 2009, with some 26 acquisitions worth a total of US$3.1 billion having been announced in just over a month-and-a-half.
