Citi strategists see the value of health care

The US bank is advising clients to seize on opportunities in the health-care sector on the back of structural changes and long-term underperformance. It likes global real estate too, but points to potential risks in recovery.

Strategists at US investment bank Citi have urged clients to capitalise on opportunities in the health-care sector in 2010.

They believe that structural changes and long-term underperformance have created potential value for investors, with health-care stock valuations the third cheapest among sectors on the S&P 500 index in terms of price-to-earnings.

“Health-care restructuring in the United States and China has the potential to add substantially to the global patient pool as insurance coverage broadens,” they stress.
