Hong Kong population Asia’s most affluent, says HSBC

A survey commissioned by the UK-headquartered bank says that the city’s affluent people are on average the wealthiest in Asia, but that Taiwan’s well-to-do are the most vigorous investors in equities.

Affluent people in Hong Kong boast more liquid assets on average than their peers in any other Asian country, according to a new survey conducted by Nielsen on behalf of HSBC.

According to the Asian Affluent Tracker survey, affluent Hong Kongers hold average liquid assets of US$301,289, almost double Singapore’s US$183, 145 or Taiwan’s US$155,162. Chinese well-to-do citizens had US$126,537 while their Indian counterparts had US$87,769.
